hi guys! My name is Melissa and my last name is Woo. People like to shout out "woo!" whenever they see me- although, I usually go by Melissa. Call me whatever you want tho, I've had my fair share of weird nicknames :p
I was born in Singapore, and lived in various places in Asia, mostly Malaysia, for the first four years of my life until I moved to Minnesota which is where I basically grew up. Its a good place to be. :) Although, the weather right now probably doesn't support that.
Currently, I'm sitting in my dorm room in Bloomington, IL as a freshman nursing major at Illinois Wesleyan University which is a small, liberal arts college that most people haven't heard of. (whew, that was a packed sentence.) I love, love, love my major and am so excited to get all scrubbed up and serve people in the way nurses do!
The only official job I've ever had was being a cashier at Wendy's. good times............
Okay, random facts:
-I played lacrosse for my high school team and i really miss it!
-Piano has been a big part of my life (12 years! forcefully for the first few...) I quit lessons end of my junior year, but I love to just play around and worship through playing! Music is important to me.
-Food is my guilty pleasure
-I love being outdoors and playing sports! That makes me sound athletic, but I'm really not. I just like to run around in the sun. Actually, just run around in general.
-I love just sitting around and observing nature. Just recently, I accidentally stayed up all night (long story) and being able to see God's glory and beauty through the sunrise was awesome!
-I like to watch cartoons when I'm eating lunch at home. (fairly odd parents anyone?)
-Green is my favorite color! Purple is my second.
As for previous mission trips... I've went on two local missions with my youth group. Our youth group partnered with a program that reached out to Hmong youth in the cities for a few years and hosted VBS and youth group for the kids/teens. Going to Kenya will be my first overseas and longest mission trip! I'm excited, so thankful, and also nervous for my financial need.
Originally, I was interested in going to Africa, but the cost scared me a way and I didn't even consider or even pray about it. So, I was all signed up to go to Haiti, but the trip was recently canceled due to instability. Now, I feel God moving me towards this trip because I think He wants me to really trust in His promises to provide and wants to show me how He's gonna fulfill them! I'm scared because I wasn't able to get out support letters until last week, but I'm praying for more faith in our Father!
I'm really excited about going to Kenya because it is a place away from all the luxurious things that I have right now. I'm very thankful for them, but its always a battle catching and tearing myself away from being too comfortable to need God. I'm so excited to see the Kenyan's love for Christ and share His love with those who don't know it! I'm so grateful for this privilege to see the Holy Spirit move like I know He is going to!!! :)
I've read some of your guyzes bio, and intend to read more... you all seem like amazing, God-loving people! I can't wait to meet all of you and have great community encouraging, serving alongside, and building each other up in Jesus Christ! yay! :)
