Hey everyone! My name is Jenna Mari Sasso. Lots of people ask if that's short for Jennifer, so I'll get that out of the way now and say that nope, it's just Jenna :) I don't mind being called Jen either, so whichever you prefer, I'll answer to. I grew up on the border of Massachusetts and Connecticut (Hartford-ish area) with my mom, sister, and grandparents. When I graduated from high school, I wanted to get to know my Dad better, so I moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where I've now lived for about 2 1/2 years (we actually live about 30 minutes out of the city in Millington).
I'm currently a sophomore in college, studying at the community college in my town. I'm a Psychology major, with hopes to either be a child psychologist or a psychiatrist who works with teens who abuse drugs and alcohol. I live with my dad, and he covers a lot of my bills, but I do haveย a job. I work at the commissary on the naval base here (we live on the base too). The commissary, for those who don't know, is the grocery store. I love my job! My hobbies are scrapbooking, snowboarding (though I can't do it much now that I live in Memphis), reading, salsa dancing, and spending time with friends in the Midtown/Downtown area of Memphis. Since a couple people seem to be on the theme of tattoos, I got mine in the middle of a hurricane. It was a tad stressful at the time, but looking back now, it's a pretty funny story. I hate snow (but still love to board on it). I love fall and spring. The only seafood I like is calamari and two or so types of fish.
I've never been on any type of missions trip, stateside or overseas. The closest to anything like that is that for four summers straight, I was on staff for a week-long camp for children who are abused, abandoned, and neglected. Changed my life, and made me want to pursue the career I am pursuing.
I am sooooo excited to get to Kenya and be used by God with all of you! I think the thing I'm most looking forward toย is seeing lots of Kenyan children smiling and laughing. I'm really not nervous about anything at all. God has given me complete peace about everything, and I've honestly just left it all in His hands. God hasn't told me anything directly about this trip, except in the way He made it obvious to me that I needed to go. That story will come later. What I do know, however, is that God has made me extremely passionate about Kenya, the Kenyan people, and this team (all of you)! There is not a day that goes by, literally, that God doesn't stir my heart in such a way that I can't help but stop and cry tears of joy and excitement for this summer!
Anyways, I also like to write, and especially about my excitement for this trip, I could go on for days. I will stop now though :) Praying for all of you and for us as a team. Can't wait to meet everyone!
Oh, and here's my picture. Getting ready to go ice skating last month :)
