Hello! My name is Mariah Miller, and that is pretty much what I go by. However, some people call me "red" (due to the hair obviously). The picture to the right is me on an ancient latrine in ephesus last summer; I thought you all might enjoy it or at least get a laugh out of it! (I clearly did.)
I grew up in Oklahoma and now attend Oklahoma Baptist University. I am a sophomore working on a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Cross-Cultural Ministry. I swore I would never be a teacher, but here I am and loving it!
I work as the Children's Ministry Intern at a local Baptist church, and it keeps me pretty busy. There are tons of children, but I love what I do. It's so rewarding to see them grow in their faith and just love on them.
I find painting fun and relaxing, but I'm hardly a professional. In my free time I like to hang out with my roommates and friends, watch movies, eat ice cream, and play games. I enjoy a good novel or any good book if I have ample free time or a 20 hr plane ride. I just read "Radical" by David Platt, and loved it! I also enjoy watching shows like "Off the Map" and "Bones".
You might call me a little OCD (I like things orderly ok?), but college and a crazy busy life have helped break me of that. I like Italian & Mexican food, travelling (especially overseas), and sunsets (wow I feel like I'm on a dating site...sorry for the cheesiness). I am an avid journaler and love looking at old journals and seeing what dumb things I said and what cools things God did. There are three things I am petrified of-snakes, spiders, and heights (real original I realize). I am sure you all will figure out my unique quirks soon enough!
I grew up going on spring break mission trips w/ my youth choir to Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. I also went to Israel twice in the 9th and 10th grade, and I think that's where my love for foreign missions was sparked. Last summer I went to Greece w/ Campus Crusade and fell in love w/ the people and the country of Greece. It truly changed me forever; now I can't picture my life w/o foreign missions being a huge part of it.
Two months from today we will all be gathering in Tennessee and preparing even further for what the Lord has in store in Kenya, and I am beyond excited! I realize I'm probably one of the last people to join our team, but that is just a testiment to the Lord's patience and timing. I am tempted at some point just about every day to worry or get nervous about this trip, but each time the Lord's peace reigns down. I pray that as we all deal w/ the legistics of this trip as well as the mental, physical, and spiritual preparation we will be reminded of the Lord's hand at work. I cannot wait to see how and why He has brought us together this summer in Kenya. I would love to get to know you all as much as possible beforehand, so feel free to facebook me, creep on pictures, message me, etc!
