My name is Kate
no nicknames... although sometimes people call me Kate the Great for kicks c(:
Born and raised in Woodstock, GA and I've lived about 30 miles south of there in downtown Atlanta for the last 4 years. LOVE Atlanta!
I'm about to graduate college in May with my Bachelors in social work. I want to go back to graduate school for Public Health and work in Maternal and Child Health in an international development agency.
Job? Which one would you like to know about, I have so many! I like to fancy myself a jack of all trades, but really I'm just broke. I work two days a week at an unpaid internship in a residential program for girls who have been sex-trafficked. I also work part time at a toy store and some weekends as an assistant for a wedding photographer. Last summer I started my own business making jewelry (wood rings mainly).
I love adventuring! (so how perfect is Adventures in Missions!) I love hiking, cycling, kayaking, and exploring. I also really enjoy the arts, both visual and performance! I started as a little girl dancing and then went on to do musical theatre in high school. Now I mainly draw and paint and I'd like to get into graphic design too. I love to entertain (figuratively and literally) and have people over for food and game nights! My church has recently started a high school youth group and I'm on the leadership and planning team for that. I LOVE discipling these kids, they are so, so precious!
I like bands like Mumford and Sons, James Morrison, Eric Hutchinson, Adele, the Civil Wars, Dave Barnes, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, Imogen Heap, Iron and Wine, etc... a nice mix of indie-pop-rock, but I'll dance and sing to anything. You'll realize quickly that I treat life like a giant musical. I love doing anything creative from rearranging furniture, to designing invitations, to editing video; I always find a new creative outlet to pursue. My favorite type of movies is action movies, even really cheesy ones like Terminator (ya gotta love the Schwarz) I love to make people laugh and to laugh with them... joy is an addiction I don't want to break, God you're so good!!! Oh, and I use to have my nose pierced, but I had to take it out for a job, and I miss it!
After Katrina I had the chance to spend about a week in New Orleans to help a church and school rebuild for re-opening and two summers ago I went to Hungary with an international team for a couple weeks to do arts missions. I was part of the dance team and we traveled all around Hungary performing in skate parks, festivals, bus stops, and cultural centers and sharing testimonies of Christ's love and offer of redemption. I found out one of the women on my team went to my church back home and she became my mentor after the trip. Now she lives in Italy and I miss her! :(
I am so excited about this trip! From the looks of things, it seems like I'm the last one to join the group so I feel like I need to catch up a bit, but its also a blessing because I've gotten to read about all of you and learn how incredible you all are. You all seem so unique and valuable in an individual way; I know the Lord is going to use us all individually and corporately to make a huge impact on Kenya this summer. Kenya's not ready!!! So pray that He prepares the way! I've never left everything behind for two months before so that is a little scary, but mainly exciting. I am most excited to get to know some of the Kenyans there, to see how they live, what their needs are and how we can serve them. I can't wait to partner with you guys in spreading the Kingdom of God throughout Africa!!!
PUMPED!!!
