Hello All, My name is Esther Nyambura Maina. I was born in Nairobi, Kenya and moved to America when i was ten years old. I live in Minnesota with my immediate family and one distant family. I moved to Minnesota because it was the only state in America that my parents knew someone. Just recently, my parents bought a house and for my eighteen birthday i got my own room. Also being that i am from Kenya, I know as little information about my birth country as every other American(not considering the ones that have gone there).

I am a first year student at North Hennepin Community College and i am currently studying Nursing. My desire is to get my BSN(Bachelors in Nursing) and then move on to get a matters in Social Work. I hope to do ministry as a Nurse and to become a missionary when i am in my 40's. From a young age, I have always had the desire to help others. My passion for the needy began when i was about six years old. At the time i lived in a little two outside of Nairobi and i remember my mom taking me to Nairobi for a treat. Everywhere she took me, I saw homeless people, and naked people. I remember a gentleman who was sitting on the edge of a building with deformed eyes, ripped clothes and a cup in his hand.My mom took out (five shillings-Kenyan money) and she told me, "Go put it in his cup and tell him that God loves him". When i placed the five shillings in his cup, I saw such great joy in his smile. I have had many things restricting me from doing serving in my young age and so when I turned eighteen, I felt that i had to take the step and fulfill my purpose.

I currently work at the well known fast food Wendy's and volunteer at North Memorial hospital. I help out in the youth group at my church (when i have time) and also participate in campus ministry at school. I was born and raised Christian, and my journey with the Lord has not been a piece of cake (like for many of us). My mom is a medical assistant but everyone who knows her says that she should be a pastor. She and her best friend Mary, have been a great influence of my faith and who i am today.

I have been on one other very short mission trip to South Dakota. We (my youth group) went to an Indian Reservation and helped the community there with cleaning and rebuilding some houses.

I enjoy being with kids, reading, singing, and being outdoors. My bike is my best friend in the summer and I LOVE walking with a passion. This past summer I tried to learn how to play guitar but after the school year began I gave up.
